Worthwhile
My wife wonders
what it is that brings
someone to here,
where
grasshoppers rise
like dust clouds
around the ankles
of a steer calf
stamping
to now, when
these Oklahoma hills
hardly nip at the heels
of Montana mountain
views he’d grown
so used to
to what, as in
“What do you even do
out here?” and all
I can say is “Live
in the country”
and hope
that’s worth as much
as I think it is
